Franklin-Essex-Hamilton BOCES invites current and potential future students, their families, and the public to an open house at Adirondack Educational Center in Saranac Lake.
The open house on Thursday, Oct. 19, will begin at 5 p.m. and run until 7 p.m. at AEC, which can be found at 711 Route 3 in Saranac Lake.
Visitors can tour the building, meet teachers and other faculty members, and explore classrooms that are set up to imitate real-world worksites.
Refreshments will be served by Culinary Arts teaching staff and students in their kitchen classroom.
FEH BOCES offers a range of career-oriented educational programs at AEC, which welcomes students from Long Lake, Tupper Lake, Saranac Lake and Lake Placid central school districts. FEH BOCES partners with local businesses and organizations to help students get real-world experience, and most of the school’s programs provide opportunities for students to earn certifications or college credits.
The Career and Technical Education programs at AEC are half-day, two-year programs for juniors and seniors. Students can choose from Automotive Technology, Building Trades, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Health Occupations and Natural Resource Science.
Two New Vision programs, for seniors only, are also through AEC: Education and Health Care Exploration. The main classrooms for those programs are at work sites, which gives students extra exposure to their field of study. Education students meet at Petrova Elementary School, and the Health Care Exploration students have a classroom at the Adirondack Medical Center hospital campus.
Adirondack Educational Center also houses an alternative education program called PASS, which helps students who need some extra attention to find their path to graduation.
North Franklin Educational Center in Malone, the other school run by FEH BOCES, hosted a successful open house on Oct. 4.
RSVP for the open house in the Facebook event.
